Sex Pistols – A People’s History is the story of the legendary punk band as told in the words of fans.
To be published in January 2026 by Spenwood Books of Manchester, UK, Sex Pistols – A People’s History will be a paperback book containing potentially hundreds of fan memories showing the influence of the Pistols on generations of punks.
Compiled by Will Boisseau, this is a book for anyone who was inspired to form a band, write a fanzine, or become a punk after hearing the Sex Pistols.
We’re seeking contributions from fans who have seen the Sex Pistols live, been inspired by their music, seen a side project by one of the band members or maybe met one of the Pistols.
Whether you brought Anarchy in the UK in 1976 or are a young punk who has just discovered the Sex Pistols, whether you were at the famous Manchester’s Lesser Free Trade Hall gig in June 1976 or maybe you’ve recently seen Frank Carter and Sex Pistols. Either way your memories will make an important contribution to this book which aims to show how influential the Sex Pistols are over 50 years of punk history.
John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten), Sid Vicious, Glen Matlock, Steve Jones and Paul Cook are all part of punk rock history. Now it’s your chance to record that history.
Every submission will be acknowledged, and as we approach publication, we’ll let you know if your story is going to be included in the final book.
If you are sending us a story, around 400 words in length is ideal. If you’re sending us a gig memory, please include the date of the show if you can. If you’re sending photos, please ensure these are at least 300KB and please attach them as separate jpegs.
To share your Sex Pistols memory, please write to pistolsbook@gmail.com. The deadline for submissions is 30 June 2025.
